Senior Nurse – Dementia Care

Permanent, full-time position 37.5 hours per week

West Wales, Dementia Service

A full driving licence with access to a car insured for business use is essential, although a pool car scheme is in place.

You will develop and handle your own caseload of patients across Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion living with a terminal illness with dementia as either a primary or secondary diagnosis. You will receive referrals from a range of primary care professionals, including District Nurses, Social Workers and CPNs to ensure the right care packages and support is being provided, at the time the patients need it.

A confident communicator, calm decision maker and member of the wider multi-disciplinary team, you will need plenty of experience and knowledge of working in dementia care, and some palliative or community care experience is desirable but not essential. Together with well-developed assessment and planning skills, your ability to prioritise your work, juggling a variety of changing demands, whilst speedily accessing the right care and support is vital.

This is a great development role for someone ready to take their next step up in dementia nursing to really influence and shape end of life care in the community.

In return, you will receive support from the Clinical Nurse Manager for Mid and West Wales and a team of Senior Nurses through Practice Development, Clinical Supervision and Continuing Professional Development, to maintain excellent standards and specialist skills in dementia care and a bursary scheme for professional studies. Marie Curie offers a pension scheme and in addition, if you are currently a member of the NHS Pension, Marie Curie will match the NHS contributions.

You must be willing to travel within your county to patients’ homes, hospitals and other venues to plan and review care requirements, working with other professionals involved in their care. A full driving licence with access to a car is essential. So if you are able to work independently, are flexible and have the knowledge and confidence to promote and deliver this amazing new dementia service, Marie Curie wants to hear from you.
