An excellent opportunity has arisen within Marie Curie for a Senior Nurse to join a unique team and really make a difference to patients nearing the end of their lives: by working to provide appropriate care and support they need at the time they need it.

Our Marie Curie nurses and healthcare assistants work night and day, in people’s homes across the UK, providing hands-on care and vital emotional support. Our Marie Curie hospices offer specialist round-the-clock care. And Marie Curie support people throughout their illness by giving practical information, support from trained volunteers and being there when someone wants to talk.

This varied role involves working alongside the multi-disciplinary team to create robust packages of care for patients at the end of their life in line with fast track funding. The role will involve working with Continuing Healthcare, community services, District nurses, Discharge teams, the Marie Curie Nursing Service as well as patients, carers and their families and you will support patients’ choices to be cared for in their own home or Nursing Home.

You must be willing to travel to patients’ homes or hospitals to plan and review care requirements, working with the other professionals involved in patients care.

You will be responsible for the day to day management of the End of Life Care Team including working closely with the coordination team in order to effectively arrange the caseload and for triaging new referrals.

You will need:

  • A first level NMC registration
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience and knowledge in palliative care
  • Experience and knowledge of community services
  • Well-developed assessment and planning skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Experience and knowledge of CHC funding would be desirable
  • Experience of team management

For an informal discussion please contact Sue Egerton, Clinical Nurse Manager on 07515 133223.
