Hospice, Patient/Family Support

Everyone enjoys a tasty meal, and nowhere is good food and drinks more important than at a hospice that cares for patients living with terminal illnesses. As a Refreshment and Catering Volunteer you will support the hospice team by ensuring patients’ meals and drinks are delivered on time.

As a Refreshment and Catering Volunteer your role will be varied and rewarding. From liaising with duty kitchen staff about the timing and delivery of refreshments, preparing and setting out the crockery and cutlery, to serving the meals to patients with guidance from the nursing staff and according to the Refreshments memo, you will play a key role in the catering team.

You will also be responsible for keeping the ward and ward kitchen areas clean and tidy and for topping up the patients’ water jugs. You should read notices displayed in the ward pantry to ensure that high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are followed at all times.

But most importantly, don’t forget to have a good chat with the patients as you go!
