This is a rare opportunity for a senior clinical nurse - who will provide clinical leadership and professional line management, acting as a supportive and flexible manager to ensure the delivery of excellent care within the in-patient unit of the Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle.

Reporting to and working alongside the Lead Nurse, you will manage a 20 bedded unit, whilst line managing a team of clinical staff, ensuring that the right workforce is trained and available to deliver quality, safe care to patients. This will also include leading on recruitment and selection and participating in investigations or disciplinary hearings on occasions. You will have specific responsibilities for Tissue Viability and Infection Prevention and Control. The unit has high levels of staffing with maximum Registered Nurse to patient ratios of 4.5.

The hospice is a vibrant place to work with an emphasis on outstanding care provided by a large and diverse MDT. The hospice has a well established staff wellbeing programme and encourages supervision and reflection through 1:1 support, clinical supervision and Schwarz rounds.

The successful candidate will have 4 direct reports, Ward Sisters, who provide effective clinical and managerial leadership on a day to day basis as well as dedicated training and facilitation time within their role.

A confident communicator, you will act as a clinical voice for Marie Curie, providing expert advice and information as necessary and also identifying future development opportunities. You will assume responsibility for the management of any clinical incidents and work within the Charity’s clinical governance framework in order to achieve targets.

You will be a Registered Nurse with relevant experience in a senior post in palliative care, oncology or related specialty, with the ability to develop and manage high standards of care for our patients. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills, as well the ability to provide effective leadership and management within a multi-disciplinary team.
