Do you have a journalism background? Do you have solid experience of interviewing people going through emotionally difficult or challenging times? Can you sensitively support people of all ages and backgrounds to share their personal stories in their own words?

As Stories Officer you will source personal stories from people who have been helped by Marie Curie and support them in telling their story to raise awareness and funds for the charity. You will also work with teams across the organisation to make sure that these real-life experiences are at the heart of everything we do.

Raising awareness of Marie Curie’s work ensures that more people who need the help of our nurses, hospices, and helpers can get the support they need across the UK.

The ideal candidate will be a natural when it comes to interviewing, writing and editing. You will have a nose for an emotive quote, as well as a sharp understanding of what makes a strong story for use across marketing, PR and digital communications, often working to very tight deadlines.

Highly developed written and spoken communication skills are key, along with the ability to chat to diverse groups of people about often very personal and difficult issues. The role also involves some administration tasks and travel. Experience of working on media databases would be beneficial.

Experience of working as a journalist or reporter is highly desirable.

This role may close early if a sufficient number of applications are received.

Every day of your life matters – from the first to the last. When you work for Marie Curie, you understand that better than ever. We’re a passionate, committed and diverse team of more than 4,400 staff and 12,000 volunteers, here for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. We offer expert care, guidance and support, to help them get the most from the time they have left.

Everyone knows our daffodil, but it’s our warmth, creativity and care that touch lives. Here, we take the time to really get to know the people we care for and those who love them. And we do whatever it takes to give them the final days and hours they deserve.
