This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our Senior Nursing Team to contribute to the provision of specialist palliative care for patients facing life limiting illnesses within a hospice setting. We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to work across both the Inpatient Unit and Day Therapy Unit to develop nursing staff and members of the multidisciplinary team.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Marie Curie Hospice Hampstead you will jointly manage patients with specialist palliative care needs in a Nurse Led Clinic within our dynamic Day Therapy Unit. This will allow you to utilise your assessment skills and to undertake nurse prescribing. In addition, this will provide you with an opportunity to support and manage a cohort of patients with complex pain and psychological needs.

You will also be supporting and developing the nursing team on the Inpatient Unit as well as providing specialist advice on the wards where necessary. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and external partners, you will ensure that this group of patients receive the highest standard of care and support throughout their terminal illness pathway.

You will be supported by our Clinical Lead Nurse, working within the Senior Nursing Team and be an integral member of the wider multidisciplinary team. You will be involved in developing nursing practice as well as implementing service redesign in order to support the rehabilitative aspect of patients with terminal illness. The role also involves input into local and national audits and policy development.

We require someone with previous specialist palliative care experience or someone with previous experience in caring for patients with malignant disease or with advanced progressive illness who can work both autonomously and as part of a team. Leadership, innovation, motivation and excellent communication skills are essential. You must have RGN level 1 with an appropriate post registration qualification and post registration experience. You must have a first degree and ideally have undertaken an Advanced Clinical Assessment Skills course and qualified as a Nurse Prescriber, or be prepared to work towards both these qualifications. Mentorship or teaching experience is essential. Your education and professional development will be actively supported.

The hospice has excellent transport links with London Underground, London Overground and buses nearby.

We provide training and development, interest free loans for travel, PC, bike purchases, free onsite parking.

If you would like to arrange an informal visit or to further discuss the role please contact Denise O’Malley, Clinical Lead Nurse on 020 7853 3400 Bleep 5 or X3502 /
